Following requests from
supporters, the public, local businesses and
local organisations, en-form reviewed its policy
on Campaigning at a Trustee Meeting on the 25th
January 2007.
Considerations
The
following considerations were taken into account
when formalising this policy:
- That the law
should be followed at all times by en-form
staff and trustees and that there should
be no encouragement to do otherwise;
We are a registered charity
and must therefore comply with guidelines
set by the Charity Commission and Charity
Law;
We would not wish to
duplicate the work already being done by
other organisations as this would be a
waste of resources. Where other
organisations are running an existing
campaign we will instead endorse these
campaigns;
en-form has built up a
reputation as being fair, honest and
approachable by individuals, businesses,
government and other organisations.
Although we are known as an environmental
organisation we are not perceived as
unrealistically green. Our ethos is to
encourage the masses to change their
behaviour step by step without turning
them off environmentally friendly
practices or alienating them from the
environment movement. We feel it is
better to get 100 people to do 10% more (1000%
effect) than to get 1 person to do 100%
more (100% effect). As you can see this
has 10 times more effect than insisting
everybody adopts a totally green
lifestyle.
Guidelines
It was decided that branding
campaigns through en-form would give them more
credibility than individuals acting in isolation.
We will seek to:
act as a focus for
others to suggest suitable campaigns;
provide campaign
tools;
instigate debate
and campaigns in accordance with our
campaign policy;
endorse campaigns
from other organisations;
comment on
consultation documents produced by
governmental organisations;
comment on planning
applications.
We will not :
- undertake, or
advocate illegal actions;
take direct action;
endorse or become
involved in any illegal activity;
waste resources by
setting up further campaigning systems
when others already exist. Campaigns will
therefore utilise the BBC's Action Network and the UK
governments online petition services.
Methods
:
petitions particularly those
conducted online
press releases
letters - sent by e-mail in
first instance
conduct online surveys and
polls
All campaigns will
require advance approval by a majority of the
Trustee's
