January 2002

Tues 1st January Walk in the New Year at High Woods Country Park.' Join a Ranger for a 3 mile walk through the woodland, grassland and scrubland of High Woods Country Park. Return to the Visitor Centre for mulled wine and minced pies (£2 donation).

Organised by Ranger Service

Meet at the Visitor Centre off Turner Road at 11 am. Bring warm work clothes and stout footwear. Children under 16 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. This walk will be unsuitable for pushchairs if the ground is wet.

February 2002

Sun 10th

Hedgerow Coppicing at Salary Brook.
Join the Salary Brook Working group to cut back a section of hedgerow to encourage young growth.

Wear warm work clothes and stout footwear, and bring a packed lunch. All tools and training will be provided Children under 16 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Lift available from High Woods Country Park Visitor Centre 10:00am. Meet at 10:30am at the ponds by Scarfe Way, off Avon Way, Colchester. Call Richard Smith 01206 282994 for more information.

Tues 19th

lmpressions of Hilly Fields - Children's Activity.
Follow in the footsteps of the Romans and make a clay creation at Hilly Fields. We will be exploring Hilly Fields and then using what we find to make our own clay tile.

Meet at 1 pm at the Sussex Road entrance, off Lexden Road, Colchester. A free 2 hour event for children aged 4 - 11. All children must be accompanied. You must book your place on 01206 853588.

Spinney Conservation Day.
Work with the Sussex Road Spinney Working Party as they look after the Spinney at Hilly Fields. Wear warm work clothes and stout footwear, and bring a packed lunch. All tools and training will be provided Children under 16 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult
