What is
a Farmers Market?
A farmers
market differs from a normal market in many ways.
Firstly, everyone abides by a strict set of rules.
Everything on sale has come from within a specified
radius, so that the food is truly local. And that
means its fresher and so more nutritious.
Furthermore, because our stallholders usually work on
a small scale, you can often find varieties of foods
that are just not available in supermarkets.
Everything you
can buy at the market is sold by the producer,
whether that is a farmer or a baker. That means you
can quiz the stallholder about their produce.
On the other
side of the table, the producers get valuable
feedback from customers. Farmers' markets are for all
kinds of food producers and offer a low-cost entry
point for many farmers who have not 'sold direct'
before.
Having Farmers
Market Rules mean that you should be confident of the
origins of the foods and be able to trust that the
produce on sale is both of a high standard and
ethically produced.
Everything on
sale has been grown, raised, baked, caught, shot or
made by hand by the people selling it unless stated.
We have strict rules guaranteeing that everything is
sold by the producer. No one is allowed to sell
another farmer's produce. Check out our rules
for sellers
All this and no
more expensive than at the supermarket. What
