We have an "Essex network" of greenpeace groups that campaigns for local and international issues. The main issues that we are campaigning on at the moment are: 1. Climate Change is the main issue with which we will be dealing - as acting now is imperative. We want to reduce energy use, and encourage "Decentralising Energy" with a lot more renewable energies. 2. We also oppose the use of Nuclear Power. 3. Onging Saving the Rainforest Campaign - to try to help preserve biodiversity and stop species extinction. 4. Ongoing ocean campaigns (to try to ask for a ban on bottom trawling and destructive fishing methods - and have some fish sanctuaries) - to try to help preserve biodiversity and stop species extinction We mainly do things like collecting petitions at stalls in town centres and handing out leaflets in supermarkets and in other places. We currently have active groups in Romford, and Southend. We hope to have a local Colchester group starting again soon and we have a provisional meeting date in September 2007. |
